Harriet Scholoer (pictured left) and Dell Gray, Past District Governor, have been recognized by Rotary Zone 27 and District 5110 for their vision and efforts to elevate the Polio Plus Society. The two, according to Nelson Maler, CFP, started back in 2012, with the idea to create a PolioPlus Society that now boasts 800 District 5110 Rotarian.
“You have blazed yet another trail,” exclaimed Maler. “First it was the sharing of this concept within our Zone and now it has been formally adopted by The Rotary Foundation thus giving the ultimate recognition due to it receiving the most public support — that of all the clubs worldwide.”
Owen explained that three other Districts in our Zones subsequently started their own PolioPlus Societies in the years since…Districts 5020, 5100 and 5240. And then this year we expanded it into our two Zones. And I’m excited to announce that the PolioPlus Society has now gone Worldwide, having recently received the blessing of TRF, as long as each district administers their own Society. We are definitely standing on the shoulders of Harriet and Dell, and now others are standing on our shoulders…is that exciting or what!
“Congratulations on this visionary concept. We are so proud to be part of this effort and truly believe that I am standing on the shoulders of Rotarian giants.
