Dear Friends,
As one Rotary year ends and another begins, it is a natural time of reflection. I am filled with gratitude for your outstanding contributions as governor. Together, we’ve shaped Rotary’s future and seen incredible work from clubs across the globe. You’ve led your district with distinction.
We often talk about goals and strategy, but without friendship and encouragement, none of it takes hold. Even a small gesture of belonging – a smile or a laugh – reminds us that we’re part of something bigger. From across the world, so many of you found that sense of belonging in our 2024-25 District Governor Facebook group. That spirit of connection in everyday moments is what shapes the club experience. When we get it right, our clubs are Simply Irresistible.
To get there, we must reflect. Are we welcoming? Are we joyful? Are we living our values? Ask the tough questions, and then act. The Rotary Action Plan helps guide those conversations and builds alignment. This isn’t about changing who we are; it’s about becoming more of who we’re meant to be.
Innovation is essential for growth. It’s not just about technology—it’s about how we connect. We must evolve with the world, especially if we want to engage younger members. Our convention just last week in Calgary was a perfect example of using new and engaging formats to keep people excited and involved. Tradition and innovation can coexist. Lead with curiosity and be willing to try new things.
Rotary isn’t just about service. The Four-Way Test shows us how peace starts within. It guides us to treat others with honesty and kindness, fostering peace in our communities. Our peace initiatives are growing globally, with new Rotary Peace Centers in Istanbul and Pune. In February, we gathered in Istanbul for the Presidential Peace Conference, where we were joined by Rotary Peace Fellows, positive peace activators, and Rotary’s key partners in peace. Let us continue to lead with courage and compassion, building the foundations of a more peaceful world for generations to come.
We’re also incredibly close to ending polio. This is the final stretch, and we can’t stop now. The Gates Foundation will match our donations 2-to-1 if we reach our $50 million goal. Together, we can finish what we started.
Through Rotary, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. This sense of connection and shared purpose is the true spirit of Rotary, and I can’t wait to see what we can do when we Unite for Good!
To you and everyone who has supported our efforts this year – thank you. You’ve shown me the Magic of Rotary, and I will carry that with me.
With gratitude,
Stephanie A. Urchick
