Experiencing the “International” in Rotary International. Travel to Puerto Rico to install clean water systems in 300 homes.

Join us in Puerto Rico March 10-16, 2024

The Medford Rogue, Jacksonville-Applegate and Reedsport Rotary Clubs have secured funding ($18,000) to purchase 300 water filtration system components for families in Puerto Rico. We are inviting all Rotarians in District 5110 to join members of our clubs for the on-site Puerto Rico project. The project involves assembling and distributing these water filtration systems in homes in two villages.

There is still great need after Hurricane Maria in 2017. More than 250,000 (nearly 8%) residents of Puerto Rico lack basic access to clean water or sanitation (March 2023). Our solution is simple and long-lasting, portable and easy to maintain. The project will be created two 5-gallon bucket systems for 300 homes so that recipients will have access to clean water for years to come.

The water filters are designed to last 10 years and to filter 1 million gallons before replacement is needed.

Rotarians prepare the buckets by drilling holes and then assembling them with ‘hardware’, which includes filter, tubing, and spigot.

Members of our clubs, friends and families have travelled to with Jorge as our team coordinator on five similar trips to assemble and deliver water filters. As we have discovered, international travel to help the most vulnerable access clean water provides Rotarians with multiple benefits:

• Amazing, unforgettable fellowship with other Rotarians
• Rewarding satisfaction of providing service to others in less fortunate areas
• Stimulates greater enthusiasm for international work that members can bring back to their clubs

Travel with Woodland Charities is incredibly easy. You send a check to cover the room, board and transportation, and buy your plane ticket. You are picked up at the airport in San Juan, stay in a hotel, eat in restaurants, travel by bus, work hard and have plenty of time for experiencing the local community.
