“The Role of Family and Friends in Suicide Intervention”

Registration is LIVE for District Conference!

Dear change-making, peace-building Rotarians! Come to this year’s Rotary District 5110’s Conference and Celebration ready to be inspired, to catch up with old friends, and to make new friends.

Click here to register for two days of international inspiration, local passion, and a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll.

This year’s conference will be at The Graduate in downtown Eugene, Friday, May 5th through Saturday, May 6th, 2023.

Our featured speakers will take us around the US, to Mexico, Bangladesh, and Saudi Arabia.

Trilingual Project Amigo scholar alum and University of Colima graduate Rafael López Díaz will kick off our Friday night dinner with a presentation on his University of Michoacán Master’s thesis – The Role of Family and Friends in Suicide Intervention. His research is focused on Mexican youth, ages 15-29. And as RI President Gordon McInally recently said, “Any mental health professional will tell you that by helping others, we essentially help ourselves.” We’re proud to support RI’s ’23-’24 focus on mental health within and beyond Rotary.

Saudi filmmaker and activist Samah Damanhoori will be sharing her first film, previews of her upcoming second film, and her international activism in her presentation “Family, Forgiveness, and Art”.

Bangladeshi-Canadian human rights attorney Rumana Monzur survived her husband’s attempt to kill her and finished law school. She is a “lamp-lighter” and she will teach us about choosing joy and finding purpose in service. She is a Vancouver, BC Rotarian and we’re delighted to be hosting her in Oregon for the first time.

And fourth-generation Rotarian Bryan Reed and his band Twisted River will rock the blues after dinner Saturday night – dancing shoes are not required but encouraged!

We can’t wait to see you all! Stay tuned for more details and updates.
