Rotary Club of Corvallis provides a warm welcome to our District-funded water scholars

By Rob Thurston

Rotary Club of Corvallis provides a warm welcome to our District-funded water scholars Jamilya Dairova from Kyrgyzstan and Vokhidjon Kakhramonov (Jony) from Uzbekistan. They are part of a cohort of six young professionals participating in the three-university cooperative masters degree program.

Their first semester was at Peace University in Costa Rica, followed by a semester at Delph University in the Netherlands and they will complete their degrees in December at the Water Conflict Management and Transformation program of Oregon State University.

While in Corvallis, Rotarians are providing initial home stays, a 4th of July meet and greet picnic (in picture), and a “Night at the Knights” baseball game, among others. Jamilya and Jony are currently on a class field trip and experiencing their first time camping out, with Rotarian supplied gear. Later in their program they’ll do presentations at area clubs.

  1. I echo Chuck’s sentiments. The water scholars we have met are outstanding young professionals coming together in countries around the Aral Sea to collaborate and bring about effective solutions. Thanks for your wonderful hospitality, Corvallis!
