D5110 Youth Exchange resumes exchange in July 2022

The resumption affects dozens of students, Rotary clubs and volunteers across District 5110.

The resumption affects dozens of students, Rotary clubs and volunteers across District 5110, a program known for having many volunteers and many moving parts.

In 2019-20 District 5110 sent 25 high school students abroad for an academic year, and hosted 26 students from other countries. Two dozen Rotary clubs were involved in either sponsoring or hosting students, 95 volunteers were trained and vetted to supervise students, and 48 host families were trained and vetted.

In addition, there were 19 short-term exchanges between families, where students are matched with partners to spend a month in each other’s countries.

The Rotary District 5110 Youth Exchange Committee guides the two programs, and has prepared “frequently asked question” hand-outs for Rotary Clubs, for students, and for potential host families.

Copies of the information sheets and application links are availble from Curt Rymer, the youth exchange administrator. rye5110kcr@gmail.com. <rye5110kcr@gmail.com.

All clubs are invited to sponsor or host students for 2022-23, but the deadline for student applications is Feb. 28.
