As I’m sure many of you have heard there was a 6.4 magnitude earthquake centered in the northern part of my District on December 20th. The damage to homes and businesses is significant with many families and businesses being displaced right before Christmas.
Our District 5130 Disaster Relief Fund immediately allocated and deployed $25,000 in unrestricted funds to provide $100 gift cards to the affected residents on December 23rd as well as engaging our Small Business Recovery Grant program. Those grants currently up to $2000 (based on current funds we have available) have started to already be approved and funded to help the small businesses affected get their doors back open as soon as possible.
We then had another earthquake of 5.4 on New Years Day which just magnified the damage. Now, the area is in the middle of a “cyclone bomb” storm that is dropping tremendous amounts of rain and wind. The magnitude of the damage is pretty significant and our Rotarians are working hard to lead the way on relief and recovery.
If any of you know of anyone that would like to help our Rotary District 5130 Disaster Relief Fund, here is the LINK TO THE PAGE. I appreciate any forwarding that you may be able to do.
Thanks so much and happy 2023 to you all!
