The Global Grants Committee meeting was a great success.

District Governor Aimee Walsh opened the meeting and talked about the CTA meeting, March 25.

DRFCC-Cindi introduced the new International Service Chair (DISC) – Juli Di Chiro and Polio Plus Chair Jane Falls.

The Guest Speaker, Rachel Hermes, Program Manager, Programs of Scale, The Rotary Foundation talked about the Program of Scale project in Zambia focused on eliminating malaria.

Programs of scale grants challenge Rotarians to think big and to work with other organizations to find comprehensive solutions to large-scale issues.  The Rotary Foundation awards a $2 million grant to one project that aligns with one or more of Rotary’s areas of focus.  Applicants are expected to work with partners outside Rotary, such as nongovernmental organizations, government entities, and private-sector institutions. These partners may assist Rotarians at any stage of program development, and they are encouraged to contribute funding. While Rotary is required to have a leadership role, our partners must have “skin in the game.” Hear about the recent example in Zambia focused on eliminating malaria.

LeAnn Mobley updated us on The Rotary Foundation Trustees met the week of January 7, 2023. The Trustees have decided to launch a second Disaster Grants program, similar to the one in 2022 that raised $15 million for projects in Ukraine.

LeAnn & Dan Smith gave an update on Disaster response grant projects and some new opportunities for service. A new business in Ukraine started by a District 5110 Rotarians that will support ten Ukrainian families and share what is happening in Ukraine up close.

International Service Chair (DISC) – Juli Di Chiro talked about the new position. Developed to better support Rotary clubs and their broad international efforts and interests. We now have an International Service Chair who will help you navigate ideas, find partners ranging from global grants to exchange students. Juli received a full-day training in Salt Lake City in November and is anxious to serve your members.

District Grants – Chair Kathy Poole, Hal Kibby brought us up-to-date on the status of the District Grants.

Two Global Grants projects were presented by the Ashland Rotary Club; Clean Water for Santo Domingo and Clean Water for San Pedro y San Pablo. Both were approved.
