Honoring an Outstanding Rotarian

A large contingent of District 5110 gathered at the Riverhouse Convention Center in Bend to share in the memories and to honor Past District Governor Jim Lussier along with Jim’s family, including a Rotary Foreign Exchange daughter from Norway, coworkers and friends.
Jim joined the Rotary Club of Bend in September 1970 and remained an extremely active member, helping where he could and providing strong leadership and mentorship.
He served as Club President in the 1983/84 year and was selected to serve as the District Governor for the 2013/14 Rotary Year. His commitment to Rotary continued as he was actively involved in assisting in many different facets of the leadership training conducted at Pacific Northwest President-Elect Training (now Learning) Seminars.
An avid Duck, Jim graduated from the University of Oregon in 1964 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and in 1966, he earned his MBA in Personnel and Industrial Management. After serving in the US Air Force, Jim was hired to work at the St Charles Medical Center in 1970. His time was spent trying “to improve the health of those we serve in a spirit of love and compassion”. He served as the CEO of St Charles for the final 15 years leading to his retirement.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Margie. He is survived by two daughters, Julane (Jim) Dover and Jenny (Shane) Groshong and sister Kathryn Lussier, along with a niece and nephew and four grandchildren.
