Some RYLA testimonials from the campers

It has inspired him to work towards new leadership roles at school, and he made some wonderful new friendships and connections.

It’s been fun reading the thank you notes from the campers, which is an annual activity for the Camp Director. Here are some of my favorite testimonials; enjoy!

I have learned more at RYLA than I have at any other social event. I am 100% telling the truth when I tell you that this camp has totally changed the way I see the whole world, life, and people.

These past few days, totally disconnected from the rest of the world, focusing on my leadership and personal growth – has allowed me to get a taste of what true leadership is.

A learning habit I will be practicing will be the Rotary Four Way Test: 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned? In life, we need a reminder of what really matters. * I have gotten so close to my species group, they’re practically family. I love them so much…before this, I was very socially awkward…now I can hold conversations and I feel comfortable talking in front of people…

I have exceeded my goals in being able to socialize with others and open up a lot more. I have learned how to allow others to help and how to work in a group environment. I have also realized how crucial it is to work and help with others.

“Walking the Line” showed me that so many people have experienced the same things as me, and giving affirmations to people after was amazing. I love Rotary and am going to set up an Interact club at my school…this camper also attached a wild flower, yarn from a beanie he made, and one of his affirmation stickers “You are loved.”

Thank you for sharing these wonderful testimonies, Mary! I received similar feedback when I picked up the Newport group in Albany on Sunday. One of our campers, Tanner Mowdy, hadn’t been involved in Interact or Rotary programs at school so he wasn’t quite sure what to expect. He didn’t even wait to get in the car on Sunday before expressing his gratitude for being selected and telling me what an amazing experience RYLA was for him. It has inspired him to work towards new leadership roles at school, and he made some wonderful new friendships and connections. I have no doubt that he’ll remember the experience forever!

I also received a nice note from one of the Eddyville parents:

Hi Freddy,

I just wanted to say thank you for extending the sponsorship to attend the RYLA leadership camp to my daughter Riley. Obviously she left a little uncertain but came home totally ecstatic and pumped about the team building, the friendships, the staff…she had a wonderful experience and I just really wanted to share it with you and your fellow Rotarian’s.

Riley is deeply interested in culture and traveling abroad. We have family in Belgium and friends in Spain that we are hoping to send her abroad to possibly attend school for a short bit with. She will be heading to Europe with Zahn and the Newport travel club Spring Break of 2024. So this was a wonderful experience for her.

Does she need to attend a Rotary meeting in regards to her attending camp? I think she would be happy to share her experience if you would like.

Again, thank you so much for the invite and sponsorship….she had a wonderful time!

  1. Congratulations and thank you to the amazing RYLA staff members and campers! I love hearing about how RYLA changes lives.

  2. As a Camper for last year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, I am thrilled that other youth around Southern Oregon and Northern California are also learning while having an enjoyable time through collaborative experiences.
