Thursday, October 2nd at noon, I arrived at First Methodist Church to visit the Ashland Club. One of my favorite parts of club visits is the brief interactions I get with individual members – I try to work in as many of those as I can. Here, I’m visiting Catherine Lutes, who is on the Member Care committee. She’s a retired middle school principal, and it’s a delight to talk to her.

Ashland Club features their students of the month. I got to meet Savanna Elster, a senior from Ashland High. We were told that she shines in the classroom and on the volleyball court, where she plays the role of Libero. She excels at “digs,” those lightning-fast defensive saves that keep the ball from hitting the court and the play alive. Savanna was invited up to the stage to speak briefly, and she thanked the Rotarians for this honor. It’s so invigorating to witness our future community leaders!

President Ed Finklea connected me with Jack Fenster (pictured behind the tripod), who is the Chair of the Technology Committee. He contacted me in advance to prepare for my needs and took care of my Artificial Intelligence PowerPoint presentation. He also records every program.
