I attended the Montague Club meeting on Tuesday, the 16th. They are a small club, and today, their meeting was more of a last-minute detail check for their Montague Balloon Fair, where everyone played a role – or several.
Being a long-time air-junkie, I had arranged to “crew” for one of the pilots. That’s a lot of heavy work – the fabric alone weighs over 200 pounds! The event attracted hundreds of people, who enjoyed the spectacle, food trucks, music, and weather all weekend.
Sunday morning, I got some air! Long-time pilot Alan Sanderson from Albany took me and another pilot up, and we floated with the wind for over an hour. Other than the occasional sound of the burner blast that heated the air in the balloon, it was quiet and peaceful. And beautiful – Mount Shasta stood watch over the whole thing. We landed in a huge field, and the landowner facilitated our chase crew’s entrance into it so they could come and get us. What fun!!!
