The Tulelake Rotary Club will be packing 100 (50lb potato boxes) food boxes prior to their November 10 club meeting. These boxes will be given to four area schools for staff to disperse to the students in greatest need the week prior to (50 boxes) Thanksgiving, and then again (50 boxes) the week prior to Christmas break from school.

The food box packing is a partnership with Bloom which provides the items to put in the boxes and disperses the boxes, a donation of boxes from Cal-Ore Potatoes, and a $500 action grant to help cover part of the cost of the boxes. The boxes have roughly $50 in food value per box. The remaining costs are covered through other grants received through Bloom.

The club was also notified at the first of the month that they will be receiving $10,000 from the Rotary/Save the Children Community Engagement Program. The funds will assist their partnership with a local pediatric clinic, Sanford Children’s Clinic in Klamath Falls, Oregon to support their Reach Out and Read literacy program where they send home a book at each well child visit for every child ages newborn through age five. They will also send home a book for every child in the club’s home town Tulelake Elementary School, and provide children’s books to our local Little Free Libraries.
