On Tuesday, January 9, our lunch program will be presentations on International Projects from Bruce Abernethy and Jamie Garza.

Bruce Abernethy will share information about his 2023 travels to Nepal with a few Interact students. Jamie Garza will give a brief presentation on our club’s international project.

In August, Bruce traveled to Nepal for three weeks as part of a delegation with Ten Friends, a Sisters-based nonprofit that supports a girls boarding school, an orphanage, and the development of libraries in rural villages. The co-founder and Bruce were the two adult chaperones and they took five high school students with them (3 from Sisters HS and 2 from the Summit HS Interact Club). The trip was life-changing for all of them as they experienced being in a culture where giving is more valued than receiving.

Signup for lunch here.

This meeting will both in-person at the Riverhouse (Deschutes South, our usual room), and virtual. Join the Zoom Meeting here: RCGB Zoom Link. You can also call in to the meeting at (669) 900-9128 and enter meeting ID: 692 491 9146. If you’re asked, the passcode is 5110. We will record the presentation for others who aren’t able to attend at noon.

  1. What a powerful experience for the students making the trip to Nepal. Jamie and Bruce are really making leaders of the Greater Bend club on the International front. Great Rotary Magic!
