The July 20 Grants Meeting Highlights

Celebrating the “Magic of Rotary” through global grants program

,

The District Rotary Foundation Committee hosted the first Quarterly Grants Meeting on July 20th. Approximately 55 Rotarians were present at the hybrid meeting. Manifesting this year’s Rotary theme, “The Magic of Rotary”, attendees were treated to presentations on 2 active global grants.

The RC of Ashland has a 17-year relationship with their sister city of Guanajuato, MX and Juli Di’Chiro updated the group on their current project providing clean water to its’ communities. She shared detailed steps to help make a global grant successful throughout the assessment, design, implementation, monitoring and reporting stages. Michelle Corradetti, from the RC of Medford, traveled last spring to visit the sites in the Amazon jungle of Ecuador where her club’s project to plant 12,500 nutritional trees is located. She shared the beautiful imagery of the project and the surrounding communities and indigenous peoples. Michelle emphasized the importance of cooperating organizations to the project’s success and outcomes. Both Rotarians are available to visit clubs and share the projects. Particularly with the Amazon Nutritional Forest grant, many of D5110 clubs supported it financially. Thank you, District 5110 Rotarians!

Grants Chair, LeAnn Mobley, reported that the district is still waiting to hear from our grants officer at TRF for the approval of this year’s district grant project requests. We are hopeful that will come in the next 2 weeks. If you have questions about your submitted project status, please contact your grants support person.

Two global grant project proposals were presented for approval of district designated funds (DDF). Tim Chesley, RC of Medford Rogue, requested $30,000 in DDF to help fund Day Care Nurseries in Manta, Ecuador. Total project value is $74,500. Amanda Ferguson, of RC of Cottage Grove, requested $20,000 for diabetes treatment and prevention in the Kaen Khon province in Thailand. Both requests were approved overwhelmingly by the committee. Note: when you attend these meetings, you are part of the committee and vote on the projects presented.

Grants meetings are some of the most well attended and impactful meetings held in our district. It truly is where you can witness the “Magic of Rotary”, and where ordinary people do extraordinary things. Please mark your calendars for the next meeting, November 2nd in Eugene.
