Why Sarah Steen Joined Rotary

Share Your “Why I Joined Rotary” Story with the District!

Sarah Steen is a business development manager for AmeriTitle in Albany, Oregon. She shares her Rotary story below in her own words.

“I could go on and on how Rotary has changed my life.

I joined Rotary because when I was in high school, Rotary believed in me. The Rotary Club of Albany and Greater Albany (my club) sent me to RYLA and gave me a high school scholarship for my volunteerism in my community. When I was given the opportunity to join as a local professional in my hometown of Albany….I was so excited to do so. I have been a Rotarian now for more than ten years. I served on the board for nine years and RYLA chair for 7 and very involved in youth exchange.

In 2017 we gained another daughter with Clara from Spain. We have gone to see her several times and flown her back twice. In addition, I just met our club’s new inbound exchange student from France (who arrives Aug 20) when we were there in April for my husband’s work. I ended up meeting him along with his grandparents (grandpa is a long-standing Rotarian and they own a champagne company 🙂 We went on the train to Brussels to meet them because they live on the border.  While we were there, I also had Clara’s sister Ana join us who is there at the EU doing an internship. She was also a Rotary exchange student and did her year in Colorado.

It’s not the power of the clipboard. It’s the name of 20 RYLA students whose lives will be changed on the paper attending RYLA.”
