DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon

Local Rotarians invite you to the 20th Anniversary!

Local Rotarians and film enthusiasts Warren and Kathryn Beer invite you to join them for the 20th anniversary of the DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon. This year’s season, a magnificent blend of live and virtual screenings, promises to be a testament to the artistic ingenuity of AANHPI independent filmmakers. Join us from March 7-9 at Eugene’s Art House on 13th Avenue for an in-person cinematic experience and continue the celebration on our virtual platform from March 10-23. Do not miss this extraordinary festival that honors the multifaceted narratives of the Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community.
The DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon is a vibrant annual event that celebrates independent films and provides a platform for underrepresented voices. Founded in 2006 by Jason Mak, the festival was inspired by his short autobiographical documentary about his family’s Chinese restaurant. Over the years, DisOrient has grown into a significant cultural event, bringing together filmmakers, audiences, and communities to engage in transformative conversations and celebrate the rich tapestry of stories on screen.
The festival’s strengths lie in its ability to bring nuanced stories to the forefront, showcasing films that tackle topics like historical events, cultural identity, LGBTQ+ stories, and social justice. DisOrient continues to push the envelope within the independent film scene, highlighting the diversity and complexity of the Asian American experience.
In 2025, DisOrient celebrates its 20th anniversary with a hybrid festival featuring live and virtual film screenings, in-person Q&A sessions with filmmakers, and special events. The festival remains committed to presenting honest portrayals of the diversity of the Asian and Pacific Islander American experience.
Joining the DisOrient Planning Committee in 2024, Rotarians Kathryn and Warren bring their experience from the San Jose, CA, Cinequest Film Festival to Eugene, OR.
Kathryn, an experienced filmmaker and dedicated volunteer, arranges filmmaker transportation and hosts the Green Room, while Warren writes loglines, scrutinizes video quality, and does marketing. They also serve as Theater Supervisors at the Art House during the festival.  They strive to connect VIP artists and film enthusiasts by providing professional and enjoyable experiences for all.
These dedicated and hardworking members of the Rotary Club of Eugene Metropolitan are excited to share their passion for art and film. And they are proud of everyone who makes this festival possible.
“We are only a part of a highly motivated team who work hard to bring the Festival together. Our Executive Director Pam Quan is amazing!”
