One of our Peace Fellows helping with Sudan Peace Talks

If the current Sudan peace talks succeed one of our Peace Fellows, Jennifer Bradshaw from Junction City deserves a big congratulations.

Chuck Root, Medford

This is the 2nd in our update on D5110 involvement with RI’s Peace Fellowship Program. Each year, Rotary awards up to 130 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of our peace centers.

The CURRENT forgotten war- Sudan Peace Talks.
With Gaza and Ukraine in the news another war is directly impacting over ½ of the population of the 3rd largest country in Africa. With 13 million displaced from their homes.
As we draft this on Sept 19th, President Joe Biden has just released a statement encouraging the warring parties in Sudan to continue their Peace Talks. Here is a news clip on the current situation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8qGvsLVOAI

If they succeed, a part of the credit should go to our 10th Peace Fellow Jennifer Bradshaw from Junction City. She was sponsored by the RC of Eugene and graduated from the Rotary Peace Center at Uppsala in Thailand. Below is her recent letter to Carol Fellows. (Note her comment about bringing a delegation of women….)

“Hello dear Tim and Carol,
So nice to hear from you! It has been far too long. I’m with the US Department of State now, working on the women peace and security agenda; and off to Geneva tomorrow joining the Sudan ceasefire talks, and bringing a delegation of women leaders from Sudan:

Wish me luck!
I’ll write more later but wanted to make sure I said hello before I disappear into cease fire negotiations process.
Thank you for all the support over the years! I am where I am because of you both…”

Since the program began in 2002, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,700 fellows who now work in over 140 countries. Many serve as leaders in governments; NGOs; education and research institutions; peacekeeping and law enforcement agencies; and international organizations like the United Nations and the World Bank.
