Past President Jessica Price is a force for good in our community and abroad. Not only does she advocate for U of O students as an attorney and win awards as a local leader, she is currently spearheading a book drive for the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. This is Oregon’s only women’s prison and we are collecting all kinds of books with the only restrictions being no true crime, survivalist, fighting or weapons books. Please no books with spiral binding either.
Bring your new or good-condition books to the Rotary Club of Eugene Metropolitan on Tuesday, May 14th at 6 pm. Join us for dinner and with a great book (or two or three) to donate at The Davis Restaurant in downtown Eugene.
Jessica is pictured above when the Oregon Women’s Business Leaders named her their 2023 Business Leader of the Year. We’re proud to call her a Metrotarian and we would love your help in bolstering her efforts to promote literacy for incarcerated women.
This will be a very Rotarian evening promoting literacy, supporting local business, and listening to our guest speaker from Egypt share his experiences as a dentist doing international volunteering.

My companion, a protestant minister, moved out leaving about 50 books on the philosophy and understanding of life, soul searching, and the like. I think the books would be appropriate for prisoners searching for ideas and answers on how to turn a life around. Is your project ongoing or did it end in May? The drive from my home in Coos Bay (200 + miles) might be worth the trip if you can get these books to the prison library.

Thank you, Al. Yes, it ended in May but your inherited collection sounds like an ideal donation for them. If we do another drive again next year we’ll send out another update so that anyone who wants to participate can join this outstanding project. Our outstanding past president collected more than 300 books this time and we are overjoyed 🙂 Thank you so much for reaching out!

What a good idea. I have volumes of fiction books -cook books, decorating books. But I live in Ashland. Also, I always wonder if there is a place to donate fun magazines.

Friends of the Eugene Library accepts all kinds of books and some magazines. Maybe your public library has something similar? Or you can donate them in Eugene if you’re in town? The donation bin is in the entryway on the basement parking level and every year they sell the donated books as a fundraiser for the library 🙂
