RYLA in District 5110 is a five-and-a-half-day residential leadership development camp for 144 high school sophomores and juniors (ages 15-17) who have demonstrated leadership qualities or leadership potential, as determined by their schools and Rotarian sponsors. Camp takes place from Tuesday through Sunday, June 20-25, 2023, at Grove Camp in Dorena, Oregon. Led by professional facilitators from True North Consulting, RYLA employs an active, age-appropriate curriculum designed to challenge and develop collaborative leadership skills. Campers participate in counselor-led, small group activities and challenges; they reside in rustic lodges supervised by cabin counselors, many of whom are RYLA alums and/or Rotaractors. RYLA participation is made possible by full scholarships from sponsoring Rotary clubs, at no cost to campers or families.

Cost per camper sponsorship is $600. Invoices are sent to clubs; payment secures spaces at RYLA, until a maximum of 144 students is reached. Clubs can begin outreach and recruitment of potential campers – informational materials are contained in the Guide for Clubs. Clubs can establish their own deadlines for student applications, allowing for time to interview and select candidates. We do require that Rotarians certify they’ve interviewed and determined that a candidate is suitable for RYLA. The camp experience is challenging mentally and emotionally and requires students who are prepared to work collaboratively and successfully with their peers, counselors, and facilitators. Deadline for campers, after selection by Rotary clubs, to register with District 5110 is Friday, May 5, 2023.
