Rotary Club of Newport Invests in Literacy and Honors Community Service

The Rotary Club of Newport is proud to continue its support of literacy, education, and youth engagement through the donation of 2025–2026 Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) titles.

Club President Laura Kimberly recently presented full OBOB sets—covering elementary, middle, and high school levels—to LCSD Media Specialist Michelle Cottrell for use in local schools. Additional sets were donated to the Newport Public Library, expanding access for the entire community. These collections will help students and families prepare for the upcoming OBOB reading competition, a beloved statewide program that fosters teamwork, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of reading.

Each book in the donated sets includes a bookplate honoring a Rotary presenter, Student of the Month, or Rotarian of the Month—recognizing multiple individuals who have gone above and beyond in service, leadership, and learning throughout the year.

This project reflects the Rotary Club of Newport’s continued commitment to literacy, education, and celebrating those who make a positive impact in our community. Thank you to all who help make this possible through your dedication and support. Your efforts continue to create meaningful change in the lives of local students and readers of all ages.
