On the Fly with DG Chris – Eugene Southtowne Club

Every club needs a John Pfanner! They deserve recognition! John arrives early to set up parking signs, banners, badge boxes, sign-in sheets and the cashier desk. He has already identified members to serve as greeter and cashier, but he greets everyone too. A quiet person, he doesn’t seek limelight.

The Eugene Southtowne Rotary Club meets at noon on Thursdays at the Eugene Mission. Lots of passion and energy here. A very service-oriented club – they have more projects than you can count on both hands! And they have sponsored TWO satellite clubs.

Southtowne Club has a John Pfanner. Every club needs a John Pfanner! They deserve recognition! John arrives early to set up parking signs, banners, badge boxes, sign-in sheets and the cashier desk. He has already identified members to serve as greeter and cashier, but he greets everyone too. A quiet person, he doesn’t seek the limelight – just works consistently behind the scenes. He also organizes Southtowne’s hospital supply program, gathering donated goods and supplies to send overseas to help start medical clinics in much needed places. John received two awards today – he’s just that good.

Kathi Hoffer’s been a Rotarian for a couple of decades. She has served in projects around the world, as well as in the Eugene area. A stalwart in the Eugene Southtowne Club, she served on the board, and then I tapped her to be club President after my year, where she navigated us out of COVID and meeting in person again in our current space. She switched our cumbersome one-fundraiser-a-year model into a more doable many-fundraisers model. Now she’s supporting five Eugene clubs as Assistant Governor. (And since it’s February, I’ll add that she found love in our Rotary club!)
