Wednesday afternoon, President Theresia Hewitt and AG Mike gave me a tour around Gold Beach that featured Rotary projects. Here, we stopped at one of the two community gardens that they have, which enable people to grow their own produce and flowers. Another impressive highlight – they build access ramps for people and businesses when needed.
I was impressed by how many of their projects proudly feature a cast aluminum plaque identifying Rotary’s role in serving the community. Those plaques aren’t cheap, so I asked how they managed it. AG Michael shared that years ago, they knew someone in the foundry business who created them.
Here’s my call out to you: Do you know anyone in foundry work today? Imagine if every one of our clubs could mark their projects this way—what a powerful way to showcase community impact and promote Rotary!
That night, they welcomed me with a potluck social featuring fresh fish off the dock and a steak dinner. Thursday’s meeting – what can I say? Just look at all these people! For a town with 1,100 people, Gold Beach Club has 45 members! Per capita – that’s amazing!
