Wednesday, November 5th, was a rainy, blustery morning. When I arrived at 6:40 am for the breakfast meeting, President Gail Wood was already there preparing for the meeting.

Toledo Rotarians really know how to celebrate their Students of the Month. Here you see Kaylie (left) and Adell. The school principal came to support them, along with the students’ parents. A background bio was read about each student, and both were engaged in conversation. When asked what they’d focus on if they had money to spend, Kaylee said fixing roads, and Adelle said improving the arts and music programs at school. Astute young ladies!

After the students, principal, and parents departed—along with a few members who had to head off to work—a handful of us lingered to talk about the difference this club makes in the Toledo community. They’ve created a beautiful Veterans Deck where local service members are honored and remembered, providing a place of pride and reflection for the town. The club also awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors—not just for traditional college paths, but for trade schools and essential training programs like EMS services.
